什么是Alexa?
　　Alexa是一家專門發布網站世界排名的網站。以搜索引擎起家的Alexa創建于1996年4月（美國），目的是讓互聯網網友在分享虛擬世界資源的同時，更多地參與互聯網資源的組織。Alexa每天在網上搜集超過1,000GB的信息，不僅給出多達幾十億的網址鏈接，而且為其中的每一個網站進行了排名?？梢哉f，Alexa是當前擁有URL數量最龐大，排名信息發布最詳盡的網站。
　　2002年5月Alexa改頭換面，放棄了搜索引擎轉而與Google合作，變身為一家專門發布網站世界排名的網站。Alexa每天在網上搜集超過1,000GB的信息，然后進行整合發布，現在他搜集的URL數量已經超過了Google。
Alexa網站世界排名
　　Alexa網站世界排名主要分兩種：綜合排名和分類排名。
　　綜合排名也叫絕對排名，即特定的一個網站在所有網站中的名次。Alexa每三個月公布一次新的網站綜合排名。此排名的依據是用戶鏈接數（Users Reach）和頁面瀏覽數（Page Views）三個月累積的幾何平均值。
　　分類排名，一是按主題分類，比如新聞、娛樂、購物等，Alexa給出某個特定網站在同一類網站中的名次。二是按語言分類，目前共分20種語言，比如英文網站、中文網站[Chinese (simpl) 和Chinese (trad) ]等，給出特定站點在所有此類語言網站中的名次。
　　Alexa還會根據網民對網站的評論，在綜合排名信息中，用“星”來給網站評一個等級，最高為“5星” 。國內網站排名最靠前的新浪網，得了“2星”。Alexa網站本身不參加排名，但是Alexa給自己的評價為4星。
　　當前世界排名最靠前的網站有：Google（http://www.google.com/）高居榜首，雅虎（http://www.yahoo.com/）緊跟其后，兩個英語網站http://www.youtube.com/和http://www.live.com/ 位居第三和第四名。
Alexa 排名權威性
　　Alexa 排名是目前常引用的用來評價某一網站訪問量的一個指標。事實上，Alexa 排名是根據對用戶下載并安裝了 Alexa Tools Bar 嵌入到 IE、FireFox等瀏覽器，從而監控其訪問的網站數據進行統計的，因此，其排名數據并不具有絕對的權威性。但由于其提供了包括綜合排名、到訪量排名、頁面訪問量排名等多個評價指標信息，且目前尚沒有而且也很難有更科學、合理的評價參考，大多數人還是把它當作當前較為權威的網站訪問量評價指標。
如何加入Alexa
　　Alexa自動收錄網站并對其進行排名。如果您不確定您的網站是否已被收錄，請到以下網址：

如何將網站提交給Alexa?
　　首先進入www.alexa.com 在頂部的"Find sites about "旁邊的文字框中輸入你的網站域名(如:www.baidu.com),當然,不帶www的也可以,然后點"GO",
　　經過幾秒鐘后將到達4個"No Data"的頁面,這時點擊從左向右第二個"No Data" 下面的"Contact Info",點了之后再點擊下面的"Self-service tools",
　　這時將出現"I want to",下面有二個選項,點第一個"Update contact information, site title, or description for 你的域名/. "，
　　現在就是需要你輸入你的相關信息了，依次往下所對應的意思是
　　"Site Title 你的網站名",
　　"Site Description 網站描述,就是介紹一下你的網站是干嘛的",
　　"Site Owner 網站持有人",
　　"Address 地址",
　　"City 城市",
　　" State/Province 省",
　　"Postal/Zip Code 郵政編碼",

　　輸入好之后點擊下面那個按鈕,到達"Either enter an e-mail address on 你的域名 where we can send a confirmation link:"
　　(下面有個電子郵件的地址,不建議你使用那個,因為現在那個很難通過了.)
　　在"Or, Place a file called info.txt on the root of your site"下面有4個選項,請點擊第1項中的"Info.txt",保存到你的桌面上(alexa的網頁千萬不要關哦,等下還要回來的),請不要更改"INfo.txt"文件里的內容！不然alexa是不會確認通過的！
　　你填好這些內容之后,保存,用FTP上傳到你的網站根目,回到alexa的頁面,就是剛剛那4個選項那里,點第4項,幾秒后會出現"thank you",這樣就是成功了,一個星期后你再查詢,你的網站將被alexa收錄.
如何查詢某個網站Alexa排名
　　1.通過Alexa官方網站直接查詢，或者通過地址：http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/0460.com (注意：“0460.com”為您想要查詢的網站域名，不帶“www”。)
　　2.通過站長類查詢網站查詢，這種方法查詢的Alexa數據更新較快，同時也能解決Alexa官方網站訪問速度慢的弊端，如http://alexa.chinaz.com/Index.asp?Domain=www.0460.com (“Domain=”后面為您想要查詢Alexa排名數據的網站。)
Alexa發展史
　　1996年4月，Alexa在美國創立。
　　1997年7月，Alexa發布了一款軟件，就是現在著名的Alexa Toolbar（Alexa工具條），這是一個嵌入到微軟IE瀏覽器中的工具，它在用戶訪問每個Web頁面時都向Alexa發回一串代碼，將該次瀏覽的相關信息告訴Alexa。而用戶會在該工具條上看到其瀏覽的網站在全球所有網站中的排名信息。
　　1999年，Alexa被美國電子商務旗艦企業“亞馬遜”收購，成為后者的全資子公司。
　　2002年春，Alexa放棄了自己的搜索引擎，轉而與Google合作。
　　現在，Alexa工具條在全球的“裝機量”早已上千萬，而Alexa主要的工作就是基于遍及全球電腦用戶桌面的工具條返回的信息，對全球網民的瀏覽習慣進行監測，并開發和銷售各種相關產品。其中，有最長達10萬個網址的全球網站排行榜，有針對某些特定行業網站的排行分析，有針對個別網站定制的網站流量監測報告。
Alexa 安裝方法
　　安裝Alexa工具條需要調整殺毒軟件，因為國內很多殺毒軟件和其它安全工具都認為它是病毒或廣告程序，但這款外國出品的工具條絕無病毒和木馬，大家可以放心安裝。
　　IE瀏覽器下安裝Alexa：
　　1.Alexa下載：Alexa官方最新版下載地址：http://client.alexa.com/install/AlexaInstaller.exe
　　2.關閉瀏覽器，防火墻，殺毒軟件（360安全衛士、卡巴斯基、木馬克星、瑞星、金山毒霸、江民、諾頓等等）和其他一切暫時不用的程序。
　　3.運行下載下來的軟件。
　　4.什么也不需要修改，下一步，直到完成。
　　5. 重啟電腦(避免重啟電腦的辦法是安裝前，關掉所有瀏覽器)。
　　FireFox瀏覽器下安裝Alexa：
　　1.下載并安裝FireFox后，可以通過點擊“工具”-“添加組件”方法，獲取添加組件；
　　2.自動進入Alexa官方網站FireFox插件安裝頁面，輸入“Alexa Sparky”搜索，即可找到Alexa工具條插件并在線進行安裝。另外，您也可以登錄Alexa官方網站（http://www.alexa.com/site/download?show=ff），下載最新FireFox版本的Alexa工具條插件安裝至您的FireFox瀏覽器中。
　　如何判斷安裝成功？
　　1.對于IE瀏覽器：瀏覽器地址欄的下方出現藍色Alexa的工具欄則表示安裝成功。如果沒有出現或者出現空白，則可能是被殺毒軟件屏障，您可以設置殺毒軟件。在IE7和IE8下，當第一次使用時還需要允許這些activex。
　　2.對于FireFox瀏覽器：瀏覽器菜單欄最右側會新增一個“Related Links”的菜單，即表示安裝成功。如果沒有，請重啟電腦再次安裝。注意：FireFox瀏覽器下的Alexa的工具條插件，殺毒軟件不會誤報，大可放心使用。
Alexa排名機制
　　Alexa瀏覽率統計和排名的先決條件
　　1、Alexa的網站排名是按照每個特定網站的被瀏覽率進行排名的。瀏覽率越大，排名越靠前。
　　2、瀏覽率是針對定義在域上的網站進行統計的。如：www.baidu.com、zhidao.baidu.com 和 baike.baidu.com 將被視作同一網站進行計數，因為它們同屬于baidu.com這個域。但是也有例外，如個人主頁，如果系統能夠自動從URL地址分辨的話，將被視為彼此獨立的網站。
　　3、提供同樣內容的網站將被視為同一網站計算。比如，百度使用www.baidu.com 和 baidu.com 兩個域名發布同樣的內容，那么將被作為同一個網站來計算。
　　4、 納入統計的訪問量僅來自使用Alexa工具欄（Alexa Toolbar）的用戶。也就是說，只有用戶下載了Alexa工具欄，并將其嵌入自己的瀏覽器。這樣，該用戶訪問某個網站的話，訪問的記錄才能算作被訪問網站的訪問量。據Alexa統計，現在使用該工具欄的用戶達數百萬。
　　5、 Alexa工具欄目前在Internet Explorer瀏覽器和FireFox瀏覽器中使用有效，使用其它瀏覽器的訪問將不能被計數。
　　6、遇到有安全保護或加密的站點，Alexa工具欄將自動關閉，因此那些安全系數高的網站，Alexa將不能對其進行搜索和統計排名。
　　Alexa瀏覽率算法
　　1、某個特定網站被排名時，依據的瀏覽率數據是基于該網站3個月訪問量記錄的累積。也就是說Alexa每三個月發布一次排名結果，即通常說的名次。它的計算主要取決于訪問用戶數（Users Reach）和頁面瀏覽數（Page Views）。Alexa系統每天對每個網站的訪問用戶數和頁面瀏覽數進行統計，通過這兩個量的三個月累積值的幾何平均得出當前名次。
　　2、訪問用戶數（Users Reach），指通過Internet訪問某個特定網站的人數。用訪問某個特定網站的人數占所有Internet用戶數的比例來表示。即：訪問用戶數 = (訪問人數/全部Alexa用戶數)* 100%，Alexa以每百萬人作為計數單位。以0460網站目錄為例，如果它的訪問用戶數為2％的話，就是說，隨意抽取一百萬的Internet用戶，其中有20,000人訪問WebRoot網站目錄。
　　3、 頁面瀏覽數（Page Views），是指用戶訪問了某個特定網站的多少個頁面。是所有訪問該網站的用戶瀏覽的頁面數之和。每個用戶瀏覽的頁面數取平均值，是所有訪問該網站的用戶每天每人瀏覽的獨立頁面數的平均。同一人、同一天、對同一頁面的多次瀏覽只記一次。
　　影響Alexa排名的其他因素
　　1、Alexa Toolbar的采用率在全球各地有所差異，受用戶的語言、地域、文化等各方面的影響。因此英文網站相對于其它語言的網站，訪問量數據更容易被充分地統計。
　　2、 容易受網站對自己宣傳的程度、做廣告的多少、別的網站為其建立鏈接的多少的影響。
　　3、不同類別的網站有時沒有可比性，所以不能一味地比較綜合排名。如專業性的網站在同類別網站中排名非?？壳?，但和門戶類網站相比，瀏覽率可能差別很大。
　　4、 排名的網站最好主動將自己的URL地址添加到Alexa 中，否則訪問量的統計會受到影響，而且Alexa不提供這些網站訪問量的詳細統計。
　　5、瀏覽率太小的網站統計數字可能不準確，總體上排名越靠前（瀏覽率越大）的網站統計數字就越可靠。一般來說，月訪問量1000以下或排名100,000以后的網站統計數字是不準確的。
